Problem: 3x + 3= 9

STEP 1: The first thing you want to do is to get the whole numbers on one side of the equal sign and the numbers with X on the other side of the equal sign. It does not matter what side they are on just make sure they are separated.

STEP 2: In order to get the whole numbers or the numbers with X on one side you must add the same number to each side but with the opposite sign.

Example: 3x + 3 – 3 = 9 – 3

STEP 3: After this has been done you are left with: 3x= 6

STEP 4: To get the X by itself you want to divide both sides by the number that is with the X.

Example: 3x/3=6/3

STEP 5: After doing this you are left with 1x=2. And your answer will be x=2.
